Gates at the showground open at 10am and there’s a chock-a-block program of events through to about 8.30pm.
“There’s no shortage of Australian champions, past and present,” organiser Shaun Read said.
“All the big names will be here.”
Ones to watch include Australian bullrider Josh Birks who won two rounds of the Calvary Stampede and Clay Bush who is a steer wrestling and team roping title holder.
Heath Nicholls, Australian all-round champion, has also entered.
“We’re going to have a really big day,” Read said. “This year we’re not clashing with any other rodeo so it’s looking massive.”
There is a total of 397 competitor entries, as well as 18 local steer riders and 15 local poddy riders.
And Forbes is hoping to provide a great show, with this week’s rain topping off preparations at the showground and top quality stock from Gill Bros.
The day starts with a huge field of junior and novice barrel riders.
From there, the events will unfold with the junior breakaway, team roping, steer undecorating, rope and tie events.
The Jaye Davie Memorial Steer Ride is on mid to late afternoon followed by the presentation of the buckle.
It’s followed by bronc riding, steerwrestling, saddle bronc and then the local under 11 steer ride.
All events have attracted excellent entries, Read says, so spectators can expect an excellent show.
Those wanting to catch a “highlights” reel of the event can catch the best of the best after the dinner break.
Between about 6.30pm and 8.30pm there will be the open bull ride, team roping, bareback ride, breakaway roping, open saddle bronc, steerwrestle and open bullride to finish off the night with a bang.
Everyone is invited back to the Forbes Services Memorial Club for the after party with 35% Band.
They’re on from 10pm to 2am with no cover charge and there will be a courtesy bus running to the club from the showground.
“Without the club, we would struggle to put the event on,” Read said. “We really appreciate what they put into this community.”
The Forbes Men’s Shed is running the rodeo canteen all day, there will be coffee and food vendors on site as well.
Bar facilities are available, strictly no BYO alcohol.
Pre Sale tickets are available at MBR Clothing and V.Air Hairdressing.
Adults $15 Children $10 Family $40 (2 adults 2 children).
