“Opera 4 Ava” is a fundraising event, with all proceeds to go to the Garland family whose young daughter Ava is having treatment for leukaemia.
The Advocate has told the Garland family’s story in recent weeks, today we introduce the Opera 4 Ava artists.
In 2015 and 2016, Diego Torre sang Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), the title role in Don Carlo, Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) and Rodolfo (La boheme) for Opera Australia.
He also sang Cavaradossi in China and Saarbrucken, Calaf (Turando) in Oso and Corrado (Il corsaro) in Parma. In 2017 he sings Cavadossi and Verdi’s Requiem in Sydney and makes his debut as Turridu (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Canio (Pagliacci) for Opera Australia.
Dominica Matthews is currently a senior principal artist with Opera Australia. Major appearances for the national company have included the title roles in La Cenerentola and Orlando, Romeo in I Capuletti e I Montecchi, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mallika in Lakme, Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, Flora in La traviata, Third Lady in The Magic Flute just to name a few.
Kathleen Moore is delighted to work with her friend Dominica Matthews again and have the chance to make a difference through performing.
Kathleen is Canadian born and has called Australia home for the past 11 years. In Australia, she made her first major stage appearance in Really Useful Group’s Australiasian tour of the Phantom of the Opera in 2008-2009, playing the roles of Confidante and Wardrobe Mistress. She has also played Clara in The Light in the Piazza at the Lyric Theatre.
Kathleen returned to Phantom of the Opera, this time touring with RUG’s International cast touring to Manila, Seoul and Daegu South Korea, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Istanbul understudying the role of Madame Giry.
