The competition attracted a huge number of entries and top talent across all classes.
The jam-packed program provided an action-packed day at Forbes Showground.
Ben Molloy won the Jaye Davie Memorial Steer Ride from a field of 18 locals, securing his first buckle in competition.
“He rode really well,” event organiser and saddlebronc rider Shaun Read said.
“Ben has been riding for a couple of years now and has really started to pick up this season.”
Ten-year-old Chet Read won the local calf ride from a field of 15 riders. After a summer travelling with his dad (Shaun) and drawing some tough stock, he stuck out the time at his home ground on Saturday for the win.
The day’s big events included the bull ride and the stock from Gill Bros were too tough for the competitors.
Singleton rider Ben Lees split the bareback riding honours with Jack Kidd, who has just returned from riding in the United States on a rodeo college scholarship.
Lees also featured in the saddlebronc prizes, in that event sharing the honours with Tumut’s Tommy Kerr.
Warren Norton from Goulburn won the Pat O’Conner Memorial steer wrestle.
Read said the day was a success, with an unprecedented number of entries it all ran smoothly and pretty much to schedule.
There were more than 90 entries in the junior and novice entries in the day’s first events – the barrel racing.
The full rode experience followed: the breakaway, team roping, steer undecorating, rope and tie events.
“Everyone had fun and all the young fellas enjoyed it,” Read said.
“The weather held off for us. It was a little bit quieter, the crowd was a little bit down (with all the other events on). It was a very busy day – we had a very big program and we got through it.”
