President Ann Mackay welcomed all to our regular bowling day and sincerely thanked all those ladies who so generously gave their time and effort in so many ways for such a successful Irish Day held together with the Men last week
We had two rinks of social pairs games played as well as 3 Major pairs games played last week with the results being;
Leisa Burton and Annette Tisdell defeated Anne Walker and Pam Stevens (played last Saturday) and Pat Hodson and Alison Cutcliffe defeated Judy Girot and Colleen Dean 13-9 while Mary Everson and Loris Stewart(playing her first competition) defeated Ann Mackay and Sandra Priest 20-9 The results don’t always show the true game as many a time the number of shots close to the jack get taken out with the last bowl and this happens often with a good skip!
Colleen Liebich was the lucky winner of the meat raffle and Carmel Murray and Ann Nixon were the rink winners Marlene Kopp will celebrate her birthday tomorrow and we will all help her to celebrate
The Social Selectors for April are Pat Hodson and Alison Cutcliffe and Morning Tea duties Bernie Symons and Sandra Priest and we will be starting at 10am in April
Major Pairs to be played this week will be Mary Everson and Loris Stewart versus Pat Hodson and Alison Cutcliffe and Jan Waugh and Lyn Simmonds versus Leisa Burton and Annette Tisdell
A committee meeting was held with reports and correspondence heard with plans made for a mufti friendship Day planned for April 5 so we encourage all ladies to bring along a friend or two in the hope they may join us regularly The Pink Day and Mothers Day is May 17 and our Mini Carnival May 6 More news on that closer to the event
Tomorrow social bowls will be enjoyed Just ring the Club between 8.30am and 9am to put your name in to play. Looking forward to seeing you there
Junior cricket
by Tim Mackay
To cap off another good year in the Forbes Services Memorial Club junior cricket competition, a presentation day was held on March 4. More than 200 parents and kids gathered at the Forbes Sportman’s Hotel for the presentation of u10s to u17s.
That morning medallions and trophies were presented to the Milo and T20 Blast children at Botanical Gardens. Special thanks was made to people who have helped over the last three years in the rebuilding of the club. Only one Forbes team made it into the grand finals – that was Gunns Mensland in the U17s.
Major award winners this year:
- Best and fairest: u12s Henry Hodges, u14s Stuart Gordon; u17s Luke McDean.
- Overall most improved: Brad Mattiske
- Encouragement Award: Justin Kruger
- President’s Award: Anthony Gordon.
Individual teams also presented awards for their best bowls, best batter and most improved.
A special thanks to all coaches, managers, umpires and scorers – without these people the kids don’t get to play.
Andrew Glasson and Anthony Gordon – for establishing a T20 Blast competition for kids between Milo and Under 10s, it was great. Jason Greive for looking after Milo.
Thanks to Andy Hardy and his dad Des and anyone who helped for training the u10s and u12s. Also Ben Smith and Jason Leadbitter who trained the rep teams and their own teams.
Thank you to a great committee especially Kim Sly and Katherine Matheson who have been there as long as myself. Thanks to the Services Club for our shirt sponsorship and the Advocate for our stories.
Overall thank you one and all, cricket is a great game. You get out of it what you put in. Kids who play team sports will grow to be happier, healthier people. We will still need help for next year so consider this when the time comes.

Croquet
All sports have suffered this week with the rain depression that hit our town this week. Although some rain was really needed, it just forgot to stop thus closing our grounds for both games this week; however we did have a lovely social lunch on March 14 at the Vandenberg Hotel. I thought with no results of games played I will supply a bit about our favoured game
Here at Forbes we play Golf Croquet every Tuesday and Aussie Croquet every Saturday, Play commences at 9am both days, however you need to arrive by 8.45am to register for the day and participate in the draw.
You can learn for as little as $2 for six games. After that you are invited to become a member which costs $10 per person per year and $5 per day to play
We do have spare mallets for you to start and everyone is ready to help you to learn. If you would like to know more about croquet in Forbes you can contact our President John Cole on 02 6857 3346, or Secretary Anne Stewart on 02 6851 5320 or mob 0432 273 295 or look us up on Facebook Forbes Croquet Club Inc.
Croquet is good for you! Croquet is at its best promoting good health and well-being without the need for sophisticated gym equipment. Our courts provide fresh air, and gentle exercise for the body, and stimulation for the brain
Croquet is a non-contact sport, for all ages. It is easy to learn, low cost, great fun to play and provides for social relaxation as well as competitive and challenging games, with men and women competing on equal terms. BUT BEWARE Croquet is addictive.
Netball
The Forbes Netball Autumn night competitions for both mixed and ladies teams will play the same draw that was cancelled last week, due to the storms.
All Team representatives are asked to please update the team sheets, so the committee will know who is playing in what team, and the draw can be organised accordingly.
Games for the opens division of Saturday competition is at 9am. The registration to Forbes NA and NNSW is for a full calendar year, from January to December.
Volunteers needed: Volunteers are needed to help run the competitions, both Wednesday night and Saturday. Help is needed to serve in the canteen, and to time games and and the office. Thank you in advance for any help.
Many of the committee and coaches are attending NetEd in Orange on Saturday, and help will be urgently needed to fill those volunteering roles.

Regional League: The Forbes Open representative team played magnificent netball at Orange on Sunday, in the West Central West Regional League Division 2. The Forbes team started the day with an exciting win over Bathurst, winning the very physical game by 46-35. The game of the day was between Orange and Forbes with both teams going goal for goal, in another very physical game.
The Forbes players were unlucky at every quarter end, when the ball would be close to their shooting circle, and the full time hooter would sound, which would also lose their centre pass for the next quarter.
Unfortunately, the Orange team shot a goal seconds before the end, which put their team one ahead, winning it 42-41. The final game for the day was against Cowra, with the Forbes players working very hard to record a magnificent win of 66-22.
Orange is now undefeated and came in first place, with Forbes coming into the second place position for the finals next Sunday. Players player honours for day two was shared between Captain and Vice Captain Alex Cowhan and Carmen Walsh.
Supporters will be needed to cheer on the team next Sunday at the Orange PCYC stadium. Congratulations to Forbes umpire Jack Piercy who has been umpiring in all the rounds in his first ever Regional League competition, after gaining his National C badge earlier in the year.
The draw and times will be in the paper on Friday.
