Councillors Lachie MacSmith, Michael Hayes and Janelle Culverson tendered their resignations at Tuesday afternoon’s Council meeting.
“It is a sorry day for Cabonne Council,” Cr Gosper said. “The merger proposal and the whole Fit For The Future process caused a lot of division and we can see that (today).
“Democracy is an important part of local government and councillors have the right to their own opinions.”
Cr Gosper thanked Crs MacSmith and Culverson for their eight and half years of service and Cr Hayes for four and half years’ service to the council.
The Mayor has rejected a suggestion that Cabonne Council is dysfunctional as a result.
He said the council would continue to provide the best services possible to ratepayers and residents.
“With eight councillors, Cabonne is still well above the minimum number of five prescribed in the Local Government Act,” he said.
Cr Gosper said it was unlikely there would be a by-election. Cabonne Council elections are scheduled for September this year.
Council will hold an extraordinary meeting on April 11.
