The first of the club’s two meetings will be held on Anzac Day, Tuesday, April 25 with racing expected to start around 1pm. Gates will open about 12pm.
One of the best canteens in the central west will be in operation and TAB facilities will be available allowing patrons to bet on the myriad of TAB meetings held throughout Australia on Anzac Day.
It is fitting that the club’s meetings are associated with the Forbes Services Memorial Club, who will present the feature race, the Diggers Cup.
The club’s association with the RSL stretches back to 1953.
Tuesday’s meeting will see running of heats for the club’s Carnival of Cups meeting which is scheduled for the following Sunday, April 30.
Along with the Forbes Diggers RSL Sub Branch Diggers Cup Tuesday’s program will also feature four memorial races in honour of some of Forbes’ harness racing stalwarts.
The memorial events will be held in honour of Pud Woods, Les Findley, Neville Pellow and Clarrie and Val Robb.
Pud Woods was a former life member of the club who served on the club committee and acted as judge at harness meetings.
The Robb family sponsor the Clarrie and Val Robb Memorial, changing the name of the event three years ago to honour Val as well as Clarrie after Val’s passing.
Both were excellent supporters of the club, Clarrie trained trainerd some of the best pacers the district has seen.
Neville Pellow was a former club president, having two stints at the helm of the club while the other memorial event is named in honour of the late Les Findley who was president of the RSL sub branch.
Excellent support from local trainers is expected at the meeting as owners and trainers attempt to qualify runners for the Carnival of Cups meeting, in particular the Forbes Services Memorial Club C0 and C1 final.
Any member of the RSL receives free entry to both meetings simply by showing their membership card at the gate on either day.
