The construction will be completed in four stages with the first stage being Press St to the Forbes Pool entrance.
Stage two crosses the pool entrance, stage three will be to Lawler Street and stage four is replacing the drain to Webb Street.
The work will be completed as soon as practical with minimal impact to the community.
Remedial drainage work has also been undertaken in Calarie Road, Alder Street, Belah Street, Dawson Street, Farnell Street, Bogan Gate Road and Sam Street.
The recent downpour was an extreme event, close to the 1 in 50 year average recurrence interval, based on reported rainfall values. The rain event exceeded the capacity of the stormwater drainage pipe networks which are designed for a 1 in 5 year average recurrence interval stormwater event.
Inspections have been undertaken on several of the stormwater drainage systems since the downpour and they are working as designed with the primary flow conveyed by the stormwater pipe network and the secondary overflow in the kerb and channel. The inspections have also highlighted areas where some upgrades are required, and these have been added to Council's survey and design program for detailed investigation.
Council has cleaned numerous semi-blocked culverts and drainage pipes, with the drainage issue at the front of the Forbes Golf and Sportsman’s Hotel being completed last week.
This involved the lowering of services and reconstruction of the stormwater drainage in this immediate area.
