“Nina (Crawford), Kerry (Neaylon), and I have been planning the Heritage Presentation Evening for quite some time and we are excited by both the revised format and the inclusion of performances by Ruby Markwort and the Wirajuri Choir from Forbes North Public School,” Mrs Laksito said.
The Heritage Presentation Evening comprises a number of components including school competitions with entries from all the schools in the shire in two categories – art and diorama.
The Forbes Art Society is contributing entries in the open drawing, painting and photography competitions and the Forbes Shire Council Art Acquisition Prize.
Judging takes place on Friday May 5 with prize winners announced at the presentation evening.
“The participation of the schools is a very important aspect of Forbes Heritage. It’s a way to engage them in the history of Forbes, the people and stories of times past,” Nina Crawford said.
The evening culminates with the announcement of the recipients of the Heritage Volunteers Award and the prestigious Forbes Medal for heritage conservation.
Kerry Neaylon points out that this year’s nominations for both the Award and Medal were all very worthy recipients.
“The volunteers are usually the invisible force behind a project and it’s nice to see that their efforts are acknowledged,” she said. This year Medal nominees were all of a non-structural nature for the first time.”
The ladies would like to extend an invitation to all to attend the Heritage Presentation Evening on Wednesday 10 May at 6.30 pm at the Forbes Town Hall.
Bookings close on Monday, 8 May and for catering purposes, you are asked to call Forbes Shire Council on 68502300 to confirm your attendance.
