Local volunteers Josh Gavin and Rhys Steffan explained the purpose of Wear Orange Wednesday at the orange-themed morning tea held at Forbes NRMA.
“It is to promote and thank the SES and raise awareness of some of the work we do,” Mr Gavin said.
WOW Day recognises and appreciates the dedicated work of State Emergency Service volunteers across Australia.
The focus of WOW Day is to encourage the community to show their support in a very simple but highly visible gesture by wearing the colour orange – the colour worn by SES volunteers.
With 17 current members, the local State Emergency Service is seeking more volunteers in Forbes.
“We are currently looking for more members,” Mr Gavin said.
Across NSW, schools, shops, towns and workplaces joined in the fun and showed their support by decorating their spaces orange.
Wearing orange on WOW Day shows the SES they are valued by the communities they support and keep safe.
According to the Wear Orange Wednesday website, 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia each year collectively provide around a million hours of their time to help communities in times of natural disasters and emergencies.
SES volunteers have a passion for helping people in the worst of weather and at the hardest of times, helping with storm and flood operations and other rescue activities.
All SES volunteers devote a considerable amount of time to skills development and training to ensure they are capable to effectively carry out the diverse range of tasks that come with being part of a dynamic and trusted volunteer emergency service.
