Forbes Mayor Graeme Miller and Golf NSW representative Grant Harding congratulate John Betland on winning the regional qualifier for entry into the Golf NSW Open.

The NSW Open Regional Qualifying event was held at the Forbes Golf Course on Sunday with a fantastic result for Forbes with John Betland gaining a place in the 2017 NSW Open.

A field of 119 golfers teed off for the qualifier and the Forbes Golf Association were complimented by all participants for the standard of the golf course. There was even a former captain of Royal Sydney Golf Club in attendance and he stated that Forbes golf course is one of the best country courses in NSW, if not the best.

We wish John all the best in the 2017 NSW Open, from November 16 to 19.

On Sunday Forbes Junior Rugby hosted a Walla carnival and there were a great number of children participating from around our region. Watching our grandson play in the carnival was a great joy, especially to see how the coaches and umpires teach the kids the skills of Walla rugby.

The Mother’s Day Classic walk around Lake Forbes was held on Sunday and unfortunately due to the inclement weather, the numbers were down but the support was still very strong to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

At yesterday’s May Council meeting we adopted Our Forbes Shire Community Strategic Plan 2017-2027. Supporting plans that outline resourcing and actions include the 2017/18 Operational Plan, the 2017/18 Fees and Charges Schedule and the 2017/18 Budget.

These draft plans will soon be on public exhibition, you will be able to see them online at www.forbes.nsw.gov.au, at Council's administration and engineering offices and the Forbes Library. We encourage you to view these plans and make comments and will advertise when they are on display.

There have been a lot of comments from ratepayers about their latest water bills on social media. Council has sent out a media release (below) and if you have any questions about your water account, please don’t hesitate to contact Council on 6850 2300.

On water bills

Forbes Shire Council is reminding ratepayers that their latest water bills are from the end of November through to mid-March.

General Manager Danny Green said that when comparing charges you need to consider how many days are included rather than just comparing to the previous charge.

“The previous account was issued for an 88 day period, the latest was for 108 days which will obviously be a reason for the increase,” Danny said.

“Council water accounts are always calculated on actual readings, which is why the amount of days in each period can change as it depends on when our contractor can read the meters.

“Garden watering and rainfall aside, household usage increases significantly in the summer months.”

Forbes’ water charge increased 11 cents per kilolitre for 2016-17. The rate of of $1.14/kL remains very low compared with other suppliers eg Parkes is $1.85 for the first 400kL and $3.25 above that, Cowra is $3.05 per kL.
