Forbes Town Band will join the orchestra for two pieces, before the guest artists perform for the rest of the evening.
The concert starts at 7pm at Town Hall, with tickets available at the door.
The event is part of this year’s Sydney Youth Orchestra regional outreach, designed to increase participation and engagement in orchestral music across the state.
With a main orchestral hub in Dubbo, aims to identify and nurture talented young musicians and establish stronger community engagement and relationships.
The orchestra has a busy schedule in the region this weekend, business development manager Mia Patoulios said120 musicians with the SYO’s Peter Seymour Orchestra and Symphonic Wind Orchestra would arrive in Dubbo on June 2 for a workshop.
In addition to the Forbes concert, the Peter Seymour Orchestra is performing alongside the Cooee Band in Gilgandra on Saturday night.
The weekend will culminate in a full-scale performance at Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre from 2pm Sunday.
“Local players will be 100 per cent in the middle of it,” Ms Patoulios said.
Sydney Youth Orchestra does return to the region later in the year: on September 25-27 they are running a strings intensive camp for the region’s strings players to build on their skills and learn with SYO emerging artists.
The cost is $50 per person.
Ms Patoulious said the camp was the result of feedback that there were not enough young people learning to play string instruments in the region, a barrier to orchestra building.
Parkes’ Gordon Richter said the orchestra had helped him gain skills.
“SYO has provided many fantastic opportunities for me and my local area that we would not normally be a part of,” he said.
Tickets to Saturday’s performance are $20 or $10 concession and they will be available at the door.
