Steven is a third generation travelling Showman and is a member of the Showman's Guild of Australasia and the Victorian Showman's Guild.
I am really enjoying my time as a Forbes Shire Councillor.
I have to admit that when I threw my hat in the ring for last year’s Council elections I had no idea just how involved it would be and how much time it would take.
Having said that, I am privileged to be working with the great team of councillors that we have.
I feel that if we achieve even a third of the goals we have in place that my time on Council will be worth it.
I said from the beginning that we needed change and it’s great to see that these changes have bought interest back to Forbes.
We have quite a few exciting developments in the pipeline and I am really looking forward to seeing them progress and bring improvements to our community.
We had a very informative meeting on Monday night about the requirements of the users of the Showground and Race Course.
We are in the process of forming a working committee with the aim of improving facilities and infrastructure at the grounds which will be extremely beneficial for our town.
By the time you are reading this my wife Sarah and I will be in Brisbane attending the funeral of three beautiful children who were killed in a tragic road accident last week.
Their Dad and I grew up together on the showgrounds with our families being close friends for three generations.
Show people refer to other show people as their family and that is exactly what it is like.
The bonds formed are so tight given the reliance on each other to get from one job to another.
I would like to thank every person in our community who has pulled us aside in the last week to express their condolences.
Your kind words have been very much appreciated.
In a sense, Forbes is similar to the show community in that what affects one affects all.
Cherish your love ones, Councillor Steve Karaitiana
