Robert Muffet is a Rural Financial Counsellor with more diplomas and “degrees” to his name than many in the Central West but he showed in his address to the Forbes Men's Probus club last month that he is also a very humble man with a good sense of humour and there is little doubt he probably needs both in his work.
Robert has been with his job for quite a few years now after initially signing on for an expected 1-2 years and when there were only 10 servicing counselling back in the 90’s, by 2005 there were 25 on the job and as of the day he spoke to us there were three service providers in the Central West utilising 33 counsellors.
He said his work was primarily 90 per cent client research and sometimes when disasters occur such as flood, drought etc he can be working up to 10-11 hours a day.
This meant he dealt with his client’s need for financial assistance and within that looking at the client’s finances at the time and that again involved mediation with outside organisations which Robert found interesting.
Before Robert spoke, the club congratulated member Don Rath on receiving the Forbes Volunteer of the Year Award. Don does a lot of work for the Museum and is a valued member of our club.
David Morrison also spoke at length on the recent trip to the Hawkesbury area on which 37 members of both Forbes Probus Clubs went along and Leo Curran spoke about his visit to the recent Cowra Friendship Day.
Our guest speaker for Friday's meeting is Senior Constable Daniel Greef who is from the Parkes Police Station.
