Vale Peter Corliss: Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter’s family. We will all miss Pete, he was a friend to everyone. He was involved in helping so many organisations and sporting groups yet always had time for anybody who needed someone to listen and to have a friendly chat. We can all learn from his generosity and sportsmanship. Rest in peace Cork, we will miss your happy smile.

Wednesday at One: What a good roll-up last Wednesday. Twenty two learners and legends turned up. The triples game was close with Bruce Dean, Jim Maloy and Trevor Curry finishing 15:12 just ahead of Rad Stevens, Bill O’Connell and Bill Looney. Ernie Egan led well for Alf Davies and they returned with a 30:11 card against a handy team of Ray Dunstan and Scott McKellar. Barry Wright and Brian Tisdell led early and kept that lead with a 19:10 result against Sid Morris and Cliff Nelson. Don Hodson and Wayne Burton played to win and so they did, with a 20:7 card against the master Col Breaden and Tony Bratton. Fred Vogelsang and Barry White returned with a winning card of 16:11 against the new boys learner Denis Byrnes and upcoming star Barry Shine.
Sunday morning bowls by Rob Goodger: There was a good rollup for the Schrader/ Howe Shield. The lawn bowls shield contested between the rugby league club and rugby union club. The Magpies verses the Platypi.
The conditions were very foggy as players began to arrive, but then turned warm and sunny. We had 72 players out on the greens and dozens of spectators all enjoying a great game of bowls. They were all capably fed by Peter Corliss RIP, Scooter Andrews and their helpers.
Winners for the league were Barry Anderson, John Cutler and Clive Herbert. The winners for the Union were Lesley Dunstan, Ray Dunstan and Barry Wright.
A big thank you to the organisers John Stringer and Viv Russell for arranging the games. The organisers were happy that everyone had a most enjoyable day. It was fun to see many of the players dressed in such bright flashy colours.
Coming up: Triples was scheduled for Saturday July 1. With the funeral of our late member Peter Corliss being held on this date, the carnival is postponed.
Club AGM and Men’s AGM 13th August. Nominate by July 22.
Ben Hall Pairs August 26 and 27.
