I had the opportunity to spend a few hours on air with some of the team at the Peak Hill Community Radio Station FM 89.5, recently. From humble beginning 10 years ago, the station now lies at the heart of the town sharing information, the opportunity for locals to voice their thoughts, and some great tunes.

Staffed by 25 volunteers, the team keeps the airwaves abuzz 24 hours a day, 7 days a week broadcasting an array of music, community announcements, messages and interviews. As is often the case, small towns rarely receive the coverage or recognition they deserve, so I was therefore delighted to let my fellow parliamentarians know more about the station through a Community Recognition Statement in the NSW Parliament, last week. Continue the fantastic work, Peak Hill Community Radio!
Life Education
With the next round of Community Building Partnership grants just around the corner, it was excellent to congratulate the final 2016 CBP recipient, CEO Kellie Sloane of Life Education NSW. Dedicated to educating children on making healthy choices and keeping themselves safe, the not-for-profit organisation will use the funding to install a permanent touch screen monitor in the Orange Life Education mobile learning centre.
Visiting most of the local primary schools in our electorate later this year, I am sure the screen will be put to great use.
Community Building Partnership
With $300,000 available for each state electorate, I encourage local organisations, clubs and incorporated not-for-profit bodies to apply for funding under this NSW Government program. Applications will be considered for infrastructure projects that promote local participation and deliver positive outcomes.

Back to Yeoval Weekend
Held from 28-30 July, the Back to Yeoval Weekend offers an abundance of family fun and entertainment including the Yeoval Mulga Bill Quick Shear competition, markets, and Yeoval Satellite’s 60th Birthday celebrations. Be sure to get along, it promises to be a great weekend for all.
NAIDOC Week
Entertaining the kids throughout the school holidays can be testing, so why not get down to Sydney for the Parliament NSW’s NAIDOC Week at Our House day? Held on Tuesday July 4 from 10am-3pm, all are welcome to join in the family fun. From storytelling to learning Aboriginal dances, there will be plenty to keep the kids entertained.
