Thursday saw three teams travel to Condobolin to compete for the Jones Trophy. Again we were unlucky going down to Condobolin 56 to 75. Congratulations to all players as good bowling was enjoyed by all in spite of the wind on those days. Congratulations also to Jan Waugh and Leisa Burton who have both recently attained their National Umpires Certificate. There will be a Committee Meeting following Bowls this week. Tomorrow, social bowls only and numbers to be rung in between 9am and 9.30am.
Veteran Golf
Tight pin placements coupled with a strong wind made conditions at West Wyalong last Thursday extremely difficult for the monthly Lachlan Valley Veterans golf 18 hole competition. Still, 56 players greeted the starter from all clubs within the association. Champion in scratch event for this year is Forbes' Richard Nixon who used his power from the tee to post 81 off the stick, nine over par. Playing one of his best rounds for some time was runner-up and fellow Forbes member, Steve Uphill with 83 off the stick. West Wyalong players dominated B grade with Robbie Stean winning with 92 on a count-back from Steve Howard. In C grade best was Ross Armstrong (West Wyalong) with 97 from Forbes' Frank Hanns on 99.
Handicap placing were shared with Fonz Melisi (Cowra) taking A grade with 74 nett on a count-back from In Phipps (Parkes). A count-back was also required in B grade between Parkes players, where the winner was Ross Smith with 75 nett from Richard Hamilton. Graham Cook won C grade with 75 nett from Forbes' Tom Edols on 76 nett. Players were split into two divisions for Stableford where Division 1 winner was Ray Cartwright from West Wyalong with 35 points from Stephen Simpson (Parkes) with 33 points. Leftie John Pearce (Parkes) won Division 2 with 34 points from Austin Crampton (West Wyalong) on 32 points. Nearest the pins on the third hole; A grade Ian Phipps (Parkes), B grade Dale Stait (Parkes).
