Michelle Adiar from NSW Golf said she was impressed with response to the events although she would have liked to have seen a few more players from clubs within the Lachlan Valley district.
“Both Grenfell and Forbes clubs deserve to be congratulated with the way they organised and catered for the event, I hope to see it played again next year. It was a success and I will be taking this back to Sydney,” she said.
Winner of the 36 hole scratch event, Mark Hale, a plus 2 handicap player from Mudgee, said he will be back in Forbes to play more often as the course and the way the tournament was conducted was as good as he has played.
“And it was a good feeling to win over John (Betland) on his home course. I will be talking to the 'boys' back home about bringing a bus load of players back for the classic in November,” he said
“This weekend has been good, and the presentation of the Forbes course was excellent, especially the greens. Really good, and I can't wait to play here again,” he added.
While chilly and windy conditions greeted the just under 100 players in Grenfell on Saturday a similar number enjoyed different conditions on Sunday in Forbes with brilliant sunshine and ideal conditions for outdoor sport.
Hale finished with 65 stableford points for the 36 holes winning by one from John Betland.
Men's handicap winner saw Paul Friend (Peak Hill) retain the trophy he won last year with 78 points from John Hocking (Grenfell) on 70 points.
18 holes trophies; Saturday in Grenfell, Barry Green (Grenfell) 35 points, Sunday in Forbes, Ben Glover (Harden) 36 points on a c/back.
Ladies scratch winner was Chantell Greaves (Dunnedo) with 48 points, runner-up Margaret Naseby (Coleambally) 43 points.
Handicap ladies winner was Helen Moriaty (Cowra) with 70 points from Christine Dobel (Cowra) 69 points.
