Driver Amanda Turnbull went into the race trailing Mat Rue for the coveted Driver of the Year award but Rue had that honour snatched from his grasp when Turnbull produced a rails-hugging drive to claim the win and the title.
Chief Fairman is a rising nine-year-old owned locally by long-time stalwart of the harness racing industry Terry Hush with Turnbull having only her second drive on the horse whilst in her father’s stables. The combination also scored at Bankstown about a month ago.
It’s been a good year for the likeable Hush, who was honoured with life membership of the Forbes Harness Racing Club as he approaches 80 years of age.
Local owner / trainer Adam Bellach also had a successful year at Parkes and other tracks in the district and has now taken over the mantle as the leading trainer in Forbes.
His star pacer Rocknroll Angel is back on the track and has been unplaced at Bathurst, three starts from a spell but has been a victim of circumstances each start and it won’t take long for the smart pacer to return to the winners’ circle.
The Gaffney / Sullivan stable had a quieter year on the track. Off the track, they are both first-time fathers so we look forward to their return to racing glory in future.
