Trundle Boomers 2017 Premiers

The Trundle Boomers won their first grand final in 35 years on Sunday to take out the 2017 Woodbridge Cup premiership.

In a thrilling game, the first half was tight in defence and the Boomers did not look convincing with the scoreboard showing 12-6.

After a rev-up from captain-coach Adam Hall at half time, the Boomers knew they wanted it more than the Cargo Blue Heelers.

With some amazing attack the Boomers were cheered to victory by the huge amount of green and gold supporters, out playing Cargo in every aspect of the game to win 36-12.

With Darryl Braithwaite’s, 'The Horses' playing on the loudspeaker, the hooter sounded and the tears flowed.

But they were happy tears and they flowed freely as brothers hugged brothers, mates hugged mates and parents hugged their sons.

Boomers secretary Leisa Rowlands said 2017 is the year of the Boomers and the club will celebrate for months to come.

“It's a day we've been waiting for for a long time,” she said.

“It may have taken 35 years, but no one cares about that!

“We all deserve this premiership. The players, the sponsors, the committee and the supporters.”

Trundle 36 (Brandon Ross 2, Cameron Skinner, Clayton Hartin, Josh Van Der Stok, Isaac Dengate, Jarrod Hall tries; Lincoln Taylor 4 Goals) defeated Cargo 12 (Matt Fuller, Tavita Lucas tries; Mat Mclean 2 Goals) Player of the Match Mahu Fangupo (Trundle).

The Boomers fans made it to Condobolin early to cheer on the Youth Boomers in their first grand final appearance.

Unfortunately they went down to Manildra 26 - 8.

“To reach the grand final in their second year of the competition is a massive achievement and the club couldn't be prouder of them,” Leisa said.
