Well I think Gordon Brown, the guest speaker at the Forbes Men’s Probus Club meeting in August, must be related to me. He seems to have been an inveterate traveller before settling into his local business, Twin City Recyclers.

And I too have travelled and lived in a number of places pursuing my journalist career.
Gordon began life in Sydney but he was fostered out to a family in Bathurst at age nine. He left school at 15 and to working on farms growing vegetables. He married in the mid 70’s and in 75-76.
He applied for a job in Forbes soon after and spent 7-8 years here before he went back to Victoria for 18 months.
He returned to Forbes in ’85 and this time learnt about growing alternative crops.
Then he decided to move closer to Forbes township and became a driver for H.E Silos.
An accident however forced him to consider a different job and so he bought Twin City Recyclers.
He now recycles plastic bottles, shopping plastic bags and pallets but gets a lot of cardboard as well.
“When I started 6 ½ tons of cardboard was big but now it is 35 tons!” he said.
Members are notified that our first meeting in 2018 will be Thursday, January 25 because the Friday following is Australia Day and a public holiday.
Our guest speaker Friday is Alan Toole, our erstwhile Tours Director. Alan will speak on one of his great loves, coins and I am sure will be sending around the tables some of those he has collected.
