What a pity it would be if this comp had to be scrapped due to lack of numbers and interest. The mixed committee work very hard to put bowls on for us so please support them. Major triples: The final of the Major Triples was played last Saturday. Team Gunn claimed the title with Danny Cassidy, Bert Bayley and Greg Gunn defeating, with a score of 24:15, Alf Davies, Scott McKellar and Tony Bratton. It was the last four ends that made the difference. Congratulations team Gunn and all who played in that comp.
AGM and men’s committee: The financials are in and the date is set for next Wednesday 27th September. The AGM will be at 6pm. and the Men’s Bowls Committee meeting straight after at about 6.30pm.
Wednesday at One: Another good rollup for Wednesday at 1.00. Johnny Gorton player swinger for Col Breaden, Barry White, Sid Morris and Peter Mackay. A friendly game resulting in Barry and Col winning by 17:11 against Sid and Peter.
Ray Sanderson and Alf Davies finished 26:8 ahead of John Allegri and Brian Asimus. Welcome back Brian it’s good to have you playing again. Rad Stevens and Ray Dunstan came good in the last few ends to have an 18:14 win over Kerry Dunstan and Rob Priest. Then in another tight match Denis Byrnes and John Kennedy picked up a 14:12 victory from Jim Maloy and Fred Vogelsang.
Thursday afternoon: Last Thursday we were just one short of making up another team. So next Thursday make sure you roll up. There was young Grant Lambert and Tony Bratton with a 23:16 win over the evergreens Wayne Moon and Al Phillips.
A close match saw Ron Symons and Lyall Strudwick with a 13:12 win over ever ready Cliff Nelson and Pete Brogan. Then it was Ian MacCallum’s turn for a win with partner Gunna Williams they had a 26:12 victory against Harvey Elliott and Darryl Griffiths with Alan Affleck playing for both sides. Well done gents.
Coaching clinic: There are two courses this weekend, the coaching clinic which is open to all and we welcome more players to come along. Beginners, learners or experienced players. Just turn up tomorrow at 8.30am. Players can choose one day or two. The coaches are a team from the ladies State coaching headed by Kath Chatillon and Deby Brien.
The other course is the club coach course. We are over booked on this one. Thanks to those who applied for the coaching courses. Those who pass the club coach class, will qualify to be club coaches.
A and B Pairs: The draw has been done and your games can be played now. It is a full club dress competition to be played at weekends.
Ferguson Shield: Unfortunately only four beginners nominated this year. Perhaps we will do better next time now that it is up and running again.
