Head on over to Forbes North Public School in the morning to get a $20 wristband to cover your entry to all eight gardens.
You can pay $5 per garden, but all gardens are very worthy of visiting and different, so the wristband is by far the best value.
Registration at Forbes North opens at 9am through the Thompson Street entrance.
Check out the school’s kitchen garden, visit the plant stall and pick up a coffee or morning tea.
Garden 2 is a true cottage garden with a large selection of cottage plants, both owners are very keen on trying new ideas and have certainly a few for you to see.
The next garden is Kim and Wendy Muffet’s permaculture garden. They have just been involved in the Grazing down the Lachlan. Girra Girra garden is designed on Permaculture principles. Its focus is on growing edibles and the plants that support them.
Fruit trees were planted three years ago, much of the garden had been planted in the winter of 2017. The garden is at its best in summer and relies on strong structural elements for winter/spring interest.
Garden 4, `Brooklyn’, is a large country garden, which has had many changes and some great sculptures, especially the eagles which overlook the garden.
Following on is Garden 5, another country garden, which has an interesting native area.
Garden 6 is on a small acreage and has had many changes plus new additions, keeping in mind minimal maintenance.
The last two gardens are in Reymond and Church Streets, around the corner from one another. One is a green garden, while the other is a park-like garden created by the owners over the past five years.
Forbes Horticultural Club and Garden Society is indebted to its members along with town/community gardeners especially who share their gardens for the benefit of many charitable organisations of their choice, who seek to help others in need.
