Representative news: Representative coaches and assistant coaches 2018. The Forbes Netball Association is calling for applications for the following representative coaches and assistant coaches for 2018. Open team to compete in the West/Central West Regional League in Orange in February, March and April 2018, one Sunday each month. State Championships-17U team in Gosford on June 8-11. State Age Championships-12 years, 13 years, 14 years and 15 years in Sydney on July 7-9. Applications close this Thursday October 19 2017. All applications must be emailed to Secretary Tiff Nicholson on above contact. Applicants must state coaching qualifications and experience and any playing experience.

Open representative team 2018: The Forbes Netball Association is calling for applications from netball players for the Open representative team to compete in the West/Central West Regional League 2018. The team will play in Orange on one Sunday each month of February, March and April. Details at the Office. Nomination forms are on the FNA website, and must be emailed to Secretary Tiff Nicholson on above email by 8pm Wednesday November 1. The Open representative team is open to players turning 14 (2018), to open ladies. All players must be registered to be eligible to trial. It was a small group of ladies playing bowls last week with 7 of our bowlers away playing in the Jess Knight Trophy at Orange. There were four Districts involved in this two day event. We were unsuccessful with the winner being the MidWest Team but the experience was valuable to all. Next year a trial one day triples event is planned at Mudgee

We had 2 rinks of pairs with Colleen Liebich and Hazel Prince defeating Carmel Murray and Alice Allen and Noela Girot and Loris Stewart defeating Judy Girot and Margaret O’Connell playing socially in lovely weather at this time of year. The meat raffle was won by Margaret O’Connell.  A Can Assist Day is organised at Canowindra on October 24 and ladies are asked to dress up for this fun charity day.

Congratulations to Carmel Murray on being given the honour of Patron of the Club Ltd at the recent AGM She works very hard on the social committee and organising food. A general meeting of our Ladies Bowls Club will take place after play tomorrow. 

Every one enjoyed the afternoon of bowls we had 6 teams five teams had two players one team had three players in it was very interesting afternoon the mats in a different place a well it is the same for both teams. Winners for the day Gloria Wright and Doreen Rogers three wins 31 points. Runners-up Wilma and Lorriane two wins one lose 21 points. Chocolate went to Sandy and Betty Rees. Every one is welcome to come to the Community Centre name in 1.15pm for 1.30pm start.

On Monday, October 9 we played a six table Mitchell movement. The North South winners were Louise Payne and Peter MacPhillamy on 60.00 per cent, with Enid and Alan Baker in second place on 53.30 per cent. The East West winners were Di Findley and Kay Toohey on 59.20 per cent with Marcia Slack-Smith and Elizabeth Jelbart in second place on 58.50 per cent. On Thursday, October 12 we played a five table Howell movement. The winners were Beth and John Biggs on 65.70 per cent with Di Findley and Helen Pitt in second place on 55.10 per cent and in third place were Marcia Slack-Smith and Elizabeth Jelbart on 53.20 per cent.

Last Wednesday eve, October 11 was round eight. Cameron Toole and Regan had solid wins for Acrets as did Jack Cole for the opposition. Neil Toole swung a see saw match his way in the fifth set. Young guns; Haig Carlsile, Charlie Yapp, Jake Hemming, and Pat Cormie were winners while Roachie’s Raiders still lead with 138 points. Second place are W Bilsboroughs 21 behind. Thursday night produced top squash and interesting outcomes. Chris McQuie, Chris Allegri, their Skipper Darryn, back after two weeks out and sub George Falvey’s efforts ensured Pipers a victory. With Nathan Roach the sole winner, Deardons were lapped by Kings. Regan and Ellie Cowhan excelled as winners, while Scott Webb and Brett Thomas put in excellent efforts also but opponents Dennis Haynes and Tim Coombs won the crucial last points. Previous leaders, Dawes now with 174 points have been eclipsed as the Kings forge ahead on 184. Excellent weather saw renewed interest in the Forbes/Parkes weekly 12 hole veteran golf competition last Thursday with 36 starters, numbers shared equally between both clubs. Not only did they enjoy beautiful outdoor spring weather everyone commented on the excellent presentation of the Forbes layout. Not far from being the best it has been for years. President of Forbes Vets, Peter Barnes took top honours with 29 points but only after a three way count-back over Parkes representative Peter Unwind (runner-up) and Forbes' Lyndon Byrne.

Ball sweep went down to 22 points; 29 Lyndon Byrne (F), 28 Barry Parker (F), 27 Michael Lynch (P), Mick Dunne (P), 25 Garry Pymont (F), Neil Wright (F), 24 Alf Davies (F), 23 Ted Morgan (F), Dub Rodgers (P), 22 Ray Sanderson (F), Allan Rees (F), Phil Bishop (P).

Encouragement Award went to Laurie Wakefield from Parkes. Nearest the pins, ninth A grade Alf Davies (F), B grade Peter Unwin (P), 18th A grade Sunna Bell (P), B grade Ray Sanderson (F). Mick Miller Shield, best six scores from each club, Forbes 160, Parkes 148. Thursday's play will be the Lachlan Valley 18 hole competition in Cowra. Noms from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start.

October 26 it is Parkes for 12 holes, 10am start. After that it is back to Forbes for 12 holes from 10am to be followed by the club's AGM.

Last Tuesday 17 played Cheating Tuesday, again in excellent conditions. David Williams had the count right to win with 29 points on a count-back. Runner-up was the very consistent Dennis Culley. A change of time for the ball toss today, 9am due to the arrival of summer conditions. Ladies come along and have a hit, you're invited. A couple of notes of interest. The golfie lost one of its great with the passing of former club president and talented player recently in Bob Doolin. Many vets will remember him when he left his mark on competitions with some handicap breaking scores. Our thoughts are with his family. The $5500 Nissan Classic, on November 11, 12 is sure to be a success with around 140 nominations received by Friday morning. There are still plenty of vacancies, late and early, so it is suggested go to the Pro Shop and nominate now. If lucky to secure a win, prizes this year best yet. Also, if you have a cart which you can lend contact the Pro Shop now, organisers need about 20 more at this early stage.
