Locally grown and bottled Gibson’s Grove olives have again claimed honours at the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, this year bringing home the title of Champion Olive.
Forbes’ Greg and Clare Gibson began growing olives on their block – just a few minutes out of town - 21 years ago.
They’ve now been entering their products in the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show for more than 12 years and are thrilled to have continued their success at this year’s big event.
Along with being crowned Champion Olive, Gibson’s Grove walked away with gold and silver trophies for their olives and two silver trophies for their olive oil.
In the table olive class, their Manzanillo style olive won the Champion Olive and a gold trophy while their Ligurian style olive won a silver trophy.
The Grove won a silver trophy for their Extra Paragon Virgin Olive Oil and a silver trophy for their Correggiola Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The Gibsons say the annual competition ensures their products remain at the top of their class.
They have twice won Champion Product – in 2010 and 2015 – and this year they’re taking it a step further, entering the President’s Medal.
This prestigious award is open to Champions awarded at each of the Sydney Royal competitions.
The President’s Medal judges products not only on sensory attributes, but also on the commercial success, environmental integrity and social involvement of the business behind the product.
The Gibsons take pride in their products saying their success is due to the way they process the olives.
All of their table olives are hand-picked and placed into natural brine within two hours of picking.
After being matured in brine for nine to 12 months, the olives are removed and sorted for quality before being placed into jars.
The olives Gibson’s Estate uses for oil are shaken out of the trees by seasonal workers and then taken to Billimari for processing.
The Gibsons settle out the olive oil several times at a steady temperature until it is ready to be bottled.
Gibson’s Grove products are available both here in Forbes as well as in major centres.
