Numbers at Monday’s cattle sale showed a significant increase this sale though quality continues to be very mixed. There were some lines of well finished and grain assisted cattle on offer, along with a larger percentage of lighter plainer types. Yearlings made up the majority of the yarding. The usual buyers were present and competing.

Vealer steers and heifers sold from 280c to 310c/kg. Yearling steers to processors eased 3c to 4c/kg. Middle weights sold from 260c to 278c, while heavy weights ranged in price from 260c to 280c/kg. Those to feed were 5c to 6c/kg better.
Light weights reached 304c, middle weights ranged from 260c to 301c and heavy weights received from 255c to 290c/kg. The heifer portion held fairly steady with slight fluctuations for quality. Processors paid from 250c to 270c, while those to feed ranged from 250c to 273c/kg.
Numbers lifted at Tuesday’s sheep and lamb sale with both lamb and mutton showing an increase in numbers. Lamb quality continued to be very mixed with both well finished and plainer lambs penned. There was 6,750 new season lambs penned and the usual buyers were present and competing in a dearer market.
New season lambs to restockers sold from $78 to $127/head. Light lambs lifted $3 to receive from $116 to $126/head. Trade weights were $4 to $8 better with prices ranging from $127 to $158/head.
Heavy and extra heavy weights sold $7 to $10/head dearer. Heavy lambs $151 to $166 and extra heavy weights from $163 to $213/head. Carcase prices 630c to 653c/kg cwt.
