The package was funded by Forbes Shire Council and created by a collaboration of the Galari-Lachlan Reconciliation Group, Forbes Aboriginal and Community Working Party and the Forbes Wiradjuri Language Group.
The resources include a Wiradjuri to English dictionary, a short film in the Wiradjuri language, and two DVDs containing songs and common phrases of the Wiradjuri language.
David Acheson, the Co Chair of the Galari-Lachlan Reconciliation Group, said it was a perfect time to promote the district’s traditional local Aboriginal language as well as its culture – you can’t teach one without the other.
Michelle Herbert, the Acting Principal of Forbes North Public School, said the learning package would be rolled out by Mr Acheson and used in collaboration with their other resources in teaching the Wiradjuri language and culture.
A copy of the cultural exchange package is also available at Forbes Library.
