It brings the total for the month to 56.6mm – after totals of just 2.2mm in June; 10.6 in July; 7mm in August (although the total is closer to 35mm, the airport weather station was offline) and 6.8mm in September.
Agronomist Guy Webb the rain had certainly lifted spirits, although it was a bit late.
Winter croppers had been hoping for the big falls promised in recent weeks to come through, particularly for earlier crops like canola.
“It will fill some of the crops that are still filling, particularly the cereals,” he said.
“They were starting to run out of puff.”
The rainfall is good news for lucerne stands and ground moisture levels for those planning any summer planting.
Forbes’ total rainfall for the year so far is 354.8mm, the bulk of that fell in March when the airport recorded 191.4mm.
This time last year Forbes had recorded 577.4mm and were watching flood waters recede.
