The Orange-born actor, singer and songwriter made his name in tv and film roles, but he’s looking forward to bringing his own music to the festival stage in Forbes on December 1 and 2.
Furze, who’s a friend of VANFEST founder Matt Clifton, was in the audience at VANFEST last year with his wife.
This year he’s performing with a “funky rock three-piece” – he’s on vocals and bass with a guitarist and drummer.
“It’s a bit Lenny Kravitz,” he explained. “I’m going to play some songs I’ve been working on for a while, it should be a lot of fun.”
Music is a passion for the former Home and Away and Underbelly star, who’s since relocated to Los Angeles and has been working on horror movies as he makes his name in the American entertainment scene.
His roles in films like Bornless Ones couldn’t be more different from Home and Away’s Eric "Ric" Dalby.
“It just so happens that I really enjoy horror films as well,” he said.
Furze’s music has also evolved: he did record three albums with band Falcon Road in 2011 – 2012 but he’s not working with a band at the moment.
“I used to write songs about having fun, but now it’s a little bit deeper,” he said.
“I don’t do this on purpose, but I tend to write a lot of songs about love, positivity.
“I’m a bit of a hippy. But with rock music.
“I love making music so much, whether it goes anywhere … I’m not fazed,” he said.
“Playing music is real, tangible and fulfilling for me.”
He’s thrilled that an event like VANFEST is happening in the region.
“It’s really cool,” he said. “It’s tough getting festivals going … to be able to get something that this happening in the central west wouldn’t be easy, but Matt has done it.”
He sees VANFEST as a great opportunity for the audience to take a road trip, see a part of the country they haven’t seen before – and of course catch their favourite music artists.
Furze shares all his latest news at themarkfurze on instagram and would love to catch up with people there.
He’s got a few different film projects coming up, including I Can Only Imagine – about the life of the lead singer of the band MercyMe – and a thriller called Breaking In.
