Wilsons top Forbes PA and H 2017 wheat crop competition

Evan Wilson of “The Ranch” has won the Forbes PA and H Association wheat crop competition from a bumper field of 17 entries in what has been a tough season.

The Wilsons’ crop of Lancer variety wheat is expected to yield 6.3 tonnes per hectare and scored well across other categories for 189 points.

Judges award points for the apparent yield, trueness to type and purity, freedom from disease, evenness and condition and farming practices.

Second place went to Lawson Grain for the Lancer wheat crop on Grawlin Plains, with an expected yield six tonnes per hectare and 186 points.

Bogabigal partnership came in third with an anticipated yield of 5.9 tonnes per hectare and 178 points.

Matt Dent took out honours in the local barley competition, with his crop expected to yield 4.5 tonnes / hectare and awarded 160 points.

Second went to Harley Wilson with an anticipated 4.55 tonnes per hectare and 152 points. Third to Greg and Scott Webb’s with 3.4 tonnes per ha and 129 points.
