Forbes Shire Council has completely reconstructed the road surface on one of Forbes’ busiest roads from the north of town. Funds from the Roads to Recovery Program have been used for the $290,000 project.
This final stage is to apply hot mix (asphalt) following stabilisation of the preliminary pavement surfaces constructed in September.
Council has three scheduled days of staged road closures along Battye Street (from Johnson to Renfree Streets) early next week.
“Next week’s work finalises the roadwork project, following the complete pavement rehabilitation including earthworks, pavement stabilisation, compaction and trimming completed before the final sealing,” Forbes Shire Council General Manager, Steve Loane, said.
Mr Loane apologised for the inconvenience but said the council team will be working to stage the closures and disruptions to minimise the impact on residents and road users.
“As this is one of the main arterial roads into the CBD, it is important to undertake the extensive rehabilitation and improvements.”
“We appreciate the community’s patience and share their excitement about the new road surface, it’s a road to serve us well for many years to come,” Mr Loane added.
Road closures and disruptions are scheduled for Monday, November 27, to Wednesday, November 29.
Mr Loane also acknowledged the Roads to Recovery (R2R) funding which received a further boost of $50million, announced at the National Local Roads and Transport Congress attended by Forbes Shire Councillors and staff.
