Essential Energy crews were quick to respond to an unplanned power outage which affected 1,564 homes and businesses in Forbes, including parts of the central business district about 12.25pm Tuesday.

Essential Energy’s regional manager Northern, Mark Summers, said for the safety of the public and their property, the electricity network automatically switched itself off after sensing a problem.
“Crews worked as quickly as safety allowed to reroute the electricity network around the fault and power was restored to 1,528 customers at 1.15pm and to the remaining 36 customers at 2.31pm,” he said.
The fault occurred near Albion Lane and people in that area may have heard several bangs and noticed a small amount of smoke.

“Specialist underground crews from Orange will now be brought in to assist our local crews make permanent repairs to the underground electricity network including to a section of cable and a padmount substation,” Mark said.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank customers for their understanding as we worked to restore power.”
