Home Alone has been crowned Australia's favourite Christmas movie. The 1990 smash hit starring Macaulay Culkin and Joe Pesci edged out other holiday staples in the Samsung Electronics Australia survey. Will Ferrell's Elf took out second place while The Grinch and rom-com classic Love Actually rounded out the top four. Die Hard, which has long sparked debate over its holiday movie status, was also in the mix according to the survey. Results also varied by gender, with men five times more likely to prefer Die Hard than women. The report also revealed 64 per cent of Aussies couldn't get into the holiday spirit without Christmas movies, with 94 per cent of respondents confirming they'd be tuning in. Samsung Electronics Australia audio visual director Simon Howe said holiday traditions often involved people gathering around a screen. "As Australians seek meaningful moments at home, we've seen the TV take centre stage and become the focal point for shared traditions - from bringing the family together for their favourite film, to connecting friends as they watch their sporting teams battle it out," he said. "Our insights show that TVs are more than entertainment units." Nearly half of all Aussies admitted to watching Christmas movies outside the holiday season in a bid to bring the festive spirit to their everyday lives.
