Man allegedly armed with axe charged with break-ins

A man has been charged with break-ins that occurred across Cowra and Canowindra in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to a Canowindra Road property on Thursday 29 May, following reports of a man armed with an axe trespassing.

It's alleged the man had threatened Rural Fire Service members with an axe, and they had detained him, NSW Police said in a statement released to media on Friday.

It's alleged multiple properties and businesses in Cowra and Canowindra since 12.55am that morning, with fences rammed, tools and equipment stolen.

A 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cowra police station.

He was charged with break and enter house, stealing value over $60,000, larceny value under $2000, enter dwelling with intent (steal), break and enter intend to commit serious indictable offence, and armed with intent commit indictable offence.

The man was refused bail to appear at Cowra Local Court on Friday 30 May.
