There's been progress on the Forbes Cultural Centre project this month and the removal of the scaffolding in recent days has given the community a view of the work that's been done.
The new roof is on and we can see the facade works, including painting and rendering, completed on both the early and new parts of the building.
Perforated screen has been installed on the second storey extension.
The Forbes Cultural Centre (Gallery Forbes) development is part of the ‘Boosting the Lachlan Valley Economy Art Project’ which is funded by the NSW Government’s Regional Growth - Environment and Tourism Fund, the Forbes Arts Society, Forbes Shire Council, Lachlan Shire Council and Evolution Mining.
It will see our former ambulance station, extensively damaged by fires in 2001, transformed into Galley Forbes with complete with multiple art galleries, storage areas, meeting rooms, conference rooms and café with indoor and outdoor dining.
The landscaping portion of the project is funded by the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Activation Fund.
That stage of the project includes the construction of a driveway and weather-proof loading area, paved pathway for pedestrian access, extended outdoor dining area and events space to facilitate improved accessibility, safety, and usability of the Centre.
Forbes Shire Council has recently taken over project management, to oversee the project's completion to lock up stage.
Council has been advocating for and the Forbes Art Society still applying for funding to complete the internal fit-out.
