One-month-old Ethan Forbes Thomas doesn’t know it yet, but he will forever have a link to the community of Forbes.

Born in Sydney on March 26 weighing 5.5lbs and measuring 48cm, Ethan is the great great great grandchild of Forbes’ first Lord Mayor, William Thomas.

As a nod to the Thomas’ strong history with the town, Ethan’s parents Matt and Tracey gave the newborn the middle name Forbes.

Mr Thomas said the decision on Ethan’s middle name was not planned.

“We were in the hospital and we were going to run with (the name) William,” Mr Thomas said.

“But we have a lot of cousins and there are already a lot of Williams in the family.

“However we thought it would still be really nice to name him after something to do with Forbes, and my wife said “well how about Forbes?””

For the Thomas’ the decision was about staying connected to their family history.

“It’s good to maintain your family heritage,” he said. “We migrated here to Sydney so for us we think it’s nice to have some reference back to where you come from.”

The Thomas' are hoping to come to Forbes in September to have Ethan baptised in the town he was named after.
