The Department of Planning and Environment is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal, which seeks to build and operate a 30 megawatt concentrating solar thermal power plant at Jemalong, 36km west of Forbes.
Vast Solar has a 6MW trial plant at the site now.
The proposal would be the first commercial concentrating solar thermal plant in NSW, and would be capable of storing up to four hours of energy. This means it could feed electricity into the grid during peak evening periods rather than only during daylight hours.
