Vast Solar's 6MW pilot site at Jemalong. The business has plans for a 30MW concentrating solar thermal power station on exhibition at Forbes Shire Council now.

A proposal by Vast Solar Pty Ltd to construct a 30MW concentrating solar thermal power plant at Jemalong is now on exhibition for community consultation.

The Department of Planning and Environment is keen to hear the community’s views on the proposal, which seeks to build and operate a 30 megawatt concentrating solar thermal power plant at Jemalong, 36km west of Forbes.

Vast Solar has a 6MW trial plant at the site now.

The proposal would be the first commercial concentrating solar thermal plant in NSW, and would be capable of storing up to four hours of energy. This means it could feed electricity into the grid during peak evening periods rather than only during daylight hours.
