Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Steven Morrison, said he was amazed and stunned, when HE was announced as the judge’s choice for NSW Business of the Year.
“We really couldn’t believe it,” he said.
“We were up against such high calibre businesses that have way more employees than us, they have bigger turnovers than us and are different kinds of industries than us.”
The prestigious award recognises overall business excellence in the areas of growth, innovation, export, sustainability, employment practices and ethics.
In May, HE Silos’ Thermal Insect Control System™ (TICS™) for silos earned them the Excellence in Innovation at the regional awards, which qualified them to progress to state level.
“It’s a real sense of achievement to be able to say that we’re improving food for all the countries in the world and giving 43 people a job,” Mr Morrison said.
Morrison’s daughter and HE Silos’ Systems Operations Manager, Stevie-Leigh, said the win was great exposure for the town, especially after September’s flood event.
“It’s great for Forbes as a community because it’s putting us back on the map, but for a good thing this time, not for a natural disaster,” she said.
Stevie said the whole team’s hard work is to thank for their success.
“Without everyone in this workshop, we would not be in this position to accept the award. We have such a fantastic team behind us and they are very supportive, loyal and dedicated,” she said.
Forbes Business Chamber President, Chris Roylance, said HE Silos deserved the state-wide recognition.
“I’m so proud of them. It’s a great business with great people,” he said.
Operations Manger, Larry Storm, is thrilled with HE Silos’ success.
“It means we’re heading in the right direction. None of this is achieved without the Morrisons’ support, number one, as the family,” he said.
