The Bus Safety Program includes classroom discussions, presentations and a ride on the bus for the children. The program teaches students how to catch the bus, safety on and off the bus and where to place their bags on the bus.
Forbes NRMA Insurance proprietors Christine Hills and Sarah Wardman said the program aims to increase children’s confidence and ensure their trip to and from school is always a safe one.
Through the bus safety program children will learn to: stand two steps back from the kerb when waiting for the bus; never push, shove or muck around at the bus stop; wait for the bus to stop completely before getting on or off; tell the driver straight away if they miss their stop; wait for the bus to move away from the kerb before crossing the road; discuss with Mum or Dad who is a ‘safe adult’; and ask mum or dad to write their home phone number on the inside of their bag.
