Sunday, March 26 will see an anticipated 1000 birds go under the hammer at Forbes Showground’s poultry and pigeon pavilion.
The auction is now in its sixth year and young organisers Sam Mackay and Jarrad Morrison say it gets bigger with each successful event.
“Last year we had 950 (head of poultry), this year we’ve already got 270 booked in so we’re expecting about 1000,” Sam said.
That includes different breeds, ages and colours of chooks, ducks, turkeys and guinea fowl.
The poultry are divided into categories for sale and the auction will start at 11am sharp with the sale of the larger, laying hens.
There are traditionally all types from meat birds to backyard layers available at the sale.
The sale allows local breeders – mostly from Forbes, Parkes and Cowra but also from Trundle, Dubbo and surrounds – to bring their birds to local market.
Sellers are still welcome. Bookings are essential, phone Sam on 0498 761 336 to register to sell.
All poultry have to be on the grounds by 10.30am Sunday. The boys will be there to take deliveries from larger sellers on Saturday evening.
Buyers come from all over the state including increasing interest from Sydney. Buyers can register on the day.
The auction is expected to run over two to three hours and a barbecue will be available.
