With Richard heaping praise on the successful staging where 109 nominations from across the state were received to play 309 rounds there was one player who left full of success and happy he took the time to play the week long event.
Geoff McKenzie of Leeton, and former Forbes resident and son of former Forbes High School teacher Col McKenzie, had plenty of reasons to feel happy with his week's play winning the A grade 54-hole stableford with 108 points while also collecting Friday's four-ball medley with Graham West scoring 47 points. Richard Doyle, who was born in Forbes and now from Sydney club Glenmore, said he starting playing golf in Forbes when sand greens were in play.
“A lot has changed since those days and I have been coming back here for around 60 years and I don't think I have seen the course better,” Richard Doyle said last weekend. This is a great tournament on the vets calendar,” he added.
President of the Forbes Veteran's Association Peter Barnes, added his thanks and praise to all who played and helped organise the tournament.
“Comments I have received have been really good. The weather has been excellent, the company good and our presentations on Thursday were very successful with excellent numbers and the dinner served was extremely satisfying,” he said adding thanks to his committee and volunteers for their continued support.
