Danny has served us very well and under his leadership we have put in place a number of initiatives and projects that will serve the Forbes Shire Council well into the future.
Danny has taken the difficult decision for family reasons and while disappointed Council accepts and understands his position. We wish Danny and his family all the best.
I’ve just returned from the Australian Livestock Marketing Association Annual Conference where we heard a number of ways to better operate and market the Central West Livestock Exchange.
We inspected the Gracemere Saleyards which is leased by Ripleys from Rockhampton Shire Council. What we saw there on the day was very impressive.
Guest speaker at the conference was Dr Alison Crook who is the Chief Veterinary Officer for the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Dr Crook addressed the conference on biosecurity issues and in particular the potential consequences of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease. She explained the ramifications of a Foot and Mouth Outbreak in layman’s terms which was extremely beneficial.
At the conference, I stood aside from my position on the board. Cr Jenny Webb was successful in gaining a position and she will service as a board member for the next 12 months.
Vanfest is shaping up as one of the best ever. It’s early days but already tickets sales are well above expectations. This is great news because the more tickets we sell the greater the economic benefits Vanfest will bring to the Forbes community.
Council has heard a number of people express concerns about the state of the saleyards. The saleyards are dry cleaned with a bobcat. Due to recent rains the clean could not take place.
There is an issue with producers bringing livestock to the yards with full stomachs. But please rest assured we strive to present this facility in the best possible condition.
