If there’s a Group 11 rugby league clash that could rival last Sunday’s twin town derby at Spooner Oval , it’s this weekend’s meeting of Forbes Magpies and Dubbo CYMS.

It’s the last game of the regular season, semi finals are to follow with CYMS sitting clear in first on the ladder with 24 points and Nyngan Tigers in second with 21.
The big Dubbo side did go down to Nyngan last weekend, and Forbes’ coach coordinator Cameron Greenhalgh says Forbes can learn from what they’ve heard about that game ahead of this weekend.
“Nyngan’s a big side and they’ve got their defence in order,” Greenhalgh said.
“That’s exactly what we need to do this weekend.
“We know we’ve got a strong forward pack, but defence wins the big games and that’s what we’ve worked on at training this week.”
The Magpies also know they can’t relax even for a minute in a game like this.
“We need to be better for longer periods of time,” Greenhalgh said.
“We’ve spoken about it this week. If we switch off, a side like CYMS can put on points quickly."
The hosts expect to welcome Traie Merritt back to the forward line-up this weekend, but may be missing Mitch Davis following injury last weekend.
“Other than that, we’re pretty much as usual and they’re ready to go,” Greenhalgh said.
The Magpies are urging everyone to head on down and support all grades this weekend, the last round of the regular competition.
After an excellent season, Forbes’ first grade, under 18s and league tag sides will all feature in the finals.
The day will kick off early, as per agreement with Dubbo, with a 10am start for our League Tag girls, all other grades will follow.
First grade is expected to kick off about 1.30pm.
Greenhalgh says the Under 18s – a top of the table clash - in particular should be an exciting game.
“The winner becomes minor premiers so Forbes has a lot to play for,” he said.
“They’re two good sides, it might be a preview of grand final day.”
This Sunday is sponsors day for the Magpies and sponsors are invited come down and enjoy the club’s hospitality as thanks for your support.
Magpies merchandise and tickets in the end of year raffle will be available.
