CLIENTS and their families have taken a peek at the new location for House with No Steps in North Forbes.
The local disability service provider is hoping to relocate to the old Pre School site by the end of the year.
At the open day on Tuesday, Western Area Manager Leanne Allegri said the feedback from the community was positive.
“The family members of the people we support are having a look and helping brainstorm ideas for the new space,” she said.
After four decades in the same Rankin Street building, both the House with No Steps and their Aussie Biscuit Factory next door, will relocate to new spaces in 2017. More on the bikkie factory’s move to come.
“We have been there for 40 years, but now it’s time for new beginnings,” Mrs Allegri said.
She described the new location, which will include an area for a kitchen and cooking, as a much more attractive space for clients to utilise.
“With the outdoor area here, we are hoping to have gardening activities, use Sports Ability kits and gym equipment,” Mrs Allegri said.
“We hope to purchase some chooks and also get clients engaged in craft.
“It’s so people with a disability have a place to go.
“We want to ensure that we have the best services and support available to people.”
House with No Steps believes the new space will lend itself to a whole range of other opportunities.
They plan to invite community groups and any other disability services to use their facilities when needed.
To suit House with No Steps, access to the building will be improved and the former children’s bathrooms and little person features from the old Pre School will be fitted out for adults.
Director of Forbes Pre School, Amy Shine said she was happy to see House with No Steps adopt the old Pre School as their new space.
“We are excited to see it get passed onto another community group and we are excited to continue our partnership with House With No Steps.”
House with No Steps Forbes currently provides support to 55 adults and 20 children with a disability and operate early childhood intervention service Little Learners for 0-6 years next to their new location in Forbes.
