Lachlan Valley Water put the call out to local photography enthusiasts to capture irrigation in images at the end of August.
The competition was designed to bring to light the diversity and value of irrigated food and fibre production in the region, chair Tom Green said.
“This photography competition goes a small way to help bring awareness both within and beyond the Lachlan Valley of just what we do have here, as well as the value of what we produce,” he said.
That includes $190 to $245 million worth of food and fibre – both raw product and value added – per year.
“Vegetables, fruit, cotton and sheep, as well as other livestock, account for the bulk or total irrigated production according to ABS stats – all produced with less than 20 per cent of the available water,” Mr Green said in launching the competition.
