First off, driven by McKayler Barnes, Montana Maestro scored an upset win at odds of 25 to one. Jason Gaffney also placed at Dubbo with Village Angel a close second.

Co-owner Warwick Edgerton took over the reins for three unplaced runs before the last Parkes meeting they went with the strength and engaged Amanda Turnbull to drive the horse with instant success.

Turnbull drove a copybook race. After settling at the tail of the field, came three wide at the bell and raced away for an easy win in a sub-two minute mile rate and the horse was well supported in the market. 

Fast forward a week to the Young paceway and this time Group 1 winning reinsman Mat Rue took the drive and had no hesitation sending Montana Maestro to race outside the leader and hold on for another win, relegating Amanda Turnbull to second place with Archeron for Eugowra trainer Grant Jones. 

Local trainer Adam Bellach has also tasted success with She’s a Ranger at Parkes and Dubbo. The pacer really has appreciated two favourable draws to score these two good wins.

Trilight Brigade and Cyclone Charlie for Forbes’ Phil Thurston went close to winning the $20,000 Where Horses Fly series final at Menangle on Sunday when they finished second and third respectively behind Blackbird Power.

Both these horses are now trained by Gemma Rue, Trilight Brigade also contested the Canola Cup final before scoring a heat win to qualify for the big Sydney final.

Eugowra’s Canola Cup series has certainly unearthed some winners since its completion with the majority of the contenders scoring wins in subsequent starts.

Other locals are also performing well with Smart Major for Jeff Brown recording placings at Wagga Wagga and Young and Chief Fairman for Terry Hush also being placed at Young in October.
