Charters (37) is charged with the murder of fellow Forbes man, Mathew Lebrocque (31).
Emergency services were called to Weelong Place, Forbes, about 1.20am on Sunday following reports a man had been injured.
He was taken to Forbes Hospital with significant head injuries but was pronounced dead later in the morning.
A crime scene was established and detectives from Lachlan Local Area Command commenced inquiries under Strike Force Heinrich.
About 3.40pm the same afternoon, police arrested Charters at a home in Show Street, Forbes.
He was taken to Forbes Police Station where he was charged with murder.
Police allege Charters was involved in a violent confrontation with the victim prior to his death.
The family of Mathew Lebrocque including his mother were in the gallery for the proceedings.
Charters did not apply for bail and Magistrate Stewart formally refused bail.
Charters, who sat handcuffed and barefoot in the dock, turned to look at the family.
The visibly distraught mother of the victim screamed “why?”
A male from public gallery ran at Charters as he was being led out of the courtroom.
He was held back by police officers who ushered Charters through the door.
The matter was adjourned to Parkes Local Court on February 19, 2018.
