The children in Goodstart’s preschool room are known as “The Conquerors” and they have written a book called Larry the Rooster.
The book is inspired by the children’s experience: Larry Spencer, whose grandson Tayte is in the group, donated some eggs for the class to incubate.
The children hatched a brood of chicks and had them as very special pets.
They’ve wrapped them in blankets, walked around with them on their heads, and had some wonderful fun.
Their story has now been illustrated by local Dane Millerd whose daughter Lexi is in the group, then painted by the children.
The book’s introduction explains the background to it, as well as the community connections that have made it all come together.
On Friday, they presented a copy of the book to librarian Bronwyn Clarke, who features as one of those who has contributed by encouraging their love of literature and reading.
