The weekly play also saw the St Andrews Scotland comp played in conjunction, and very well done.
In the weekly comp winner was Peter Bristol (Parkes) on a count-back from Garry Collits (Forbes) who had his short game 'on fire'. Both had 28 points. Encouragement award to Parkes' Mike Dunne with 14 points.
Nearest the pins, first John O'Shannessy (P), fourth Rod Luyth (P), sixth Phil Smith (P), 11th Garry Pymont (F). There were 13 balls handed out in the sweep. Mick Miller shield, Parkes 158 points, Forbes 153.
In the St Andrews comp, organised by Parkes' Allan Afflick. Top prizes to Parkes players Ian Phipps, Graham Cooks and Peter Bristol. Second were Barry Shine (F), Cassa Belley (P) and Garry Collits (F), third to Alf Davies (F), David Williams (F) and Barry Toole (F).
Birdies to Ian Phipps (P), Dale Stait (P), Peter Schofield (F), Richard Hamilton (P) and Frank Donohue (F). If only award to Mike Dunne.
Longest drives (getting to Parkes), Sunna Bell (P), Frank Donohue (F), Ted Morgan (F). Raffle prizes were given to eight lucky players.
Thursday will be the final 12 hole comp for the year with 18 holes in Forbes followed by lunch and refreshments. Noms from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start.
Big news for this week from the Tuesday comp, it is no longer called 'Cheating Tuesday'.
Quite a few feel calling it 'cheating, quite rightly gives the game a bad name. And another, there will be no more 'gimme' putts. Players must putt out as there are now a number of comps being played in conjunction.
Winner last week was Adam Andrews on a count-back from Barry Toole after both posted 33 points for the 12 holes. Last week players also enjoyed a BBQ and drinks after play which was well received.
Tuesday competition again today will ball toss at 9am. Come and join a social round in good company.
What a great time to play golf, get out early, beat the heat and enjoy.
After play the Golfie Hotel keeps the ball rolling with Pub Trivia and their $16 BBQ every Friday night. A great time to talk good, and not so good, shots.
On that, how often have we heard to progress talk positive, socialise with positive people, don't talk negative and don't hang around with negative people. We hope you guess the results.
Last week it came to light, the bit about being positive. A group of our Tuesday golfers joined Chris and Bernadette Morgan from Brisbane on their way home from Melbourne.
They only had positive messages for the golfie complex, with words like our accommodation 'the best value on our trip, great', 'the hotel dinner and hospitality, great', and the course, 'we play three courses in Brisbane and this compared very favourably. And the greens, again great'.
Better news followed. The couple drive regularly to Melbourne to see family and guess where they will be staying on the trip, Forbes. Being golfers the classic came up in conversation, so next year we may have two more interstate players in the field. No doubt, our golfie complex is a great advertisement for the town.
Another positive we heard recently. During the Nissan Classic a Narrandera man along some mates, was motoring along the highway going home after doing some horse business in the north
Arriving home he phoned family here to ask what was on at the golfie. The conversation went something like this, 'what's that crane doing on the course flying the flag, and the Nissan cars on the tee near the highway. What's going on with Forbes golf?'
Think about it, talk positive about our golfie, talk positive about our town and we all benefit. Pretty simple really.

Wow! What great results for this week’s games with 6 members winning their three games on Tuesday, the winning teams being Marj Styles, Veva MacCullagh, Dorothea Croker, John Browne, John Allegri and Kevin Rubie. Excellent results teams. A big apology to Marj Styles for my error in failing to note her three wins on Tuesday 7th November.
Saturday was a washout and no games were played. Such a disappointing weekend for those attending Vanfest. The town had great hopes for an exciting weekend of camping and music for our visitors. Don’t forget our Christmas get together at the Van on Tuesday 12 December at 12 midday. Wear your brightest, Christmassy gear and be prepared to have an enjoyable time.

Netball
The Forbes Netball Association Spring night competitions for both mixed and ladies teams came to the end of the season last week, when Finals were played in both divisions. The Ladies final was very close throughout the full game, with the lead often changing, and spectators kept on the edge of their seats, as they cheered on their favourite team. The final result was Forbes Engineering 32 defeated Postie 31.
Forbes Engineering held a two goal lead at the end of the first quarter, winning it 10-8, but Postie fought back in the second to even the scores at the half time break at 15 all. Monique Pointon lead the way for Engineering, showing great vision in all areas, with Lisa Drane and Carmen Jelbart also having a big impact for their Engineering team.
The third quarter had Engineering ahead by two goals, with Postie players Aurella White, Ellie Flick and Caitlin Duncan fighting hard for their team. The lead changed many times, and the final quarter was very exciting, as both teams scored goal for goal. Postie took the lead with a minute to go, but Engineering fought hard, and regained the lead, and scored the winning goal with seconds to spare.
The experience of the Engineering team came through in the last minute, but the young Postie team showed what they are capable of as they gain experience in tight games.
The final of the Mixed competition was played between the new team of H & S, and the younger team of Zenith. The final result was Zenith 24 defeated H & S 10. Zenith took an early lead in the first quarter, winning it 5-2 and at half time increased by a goal to lead 10-7, with all players working hard.
The teenagers for Zenith showed great skills, lead by Ellen McLinden, who never gave up, setting a great example of determination and fighting spirit. Will Driscoll for Zenith intercepted many passes, and kept turing over the ball to his team. Krystal Girot, shoorter for Zenith, who is coming back from 12 months of injury, also showed all the skills she has learnt before her break.
H & S are a new team, with the men catching on to netball very early in the competition. H & S was lead by Ness Campbell and Hannah Cudaj, who never gave up trying. Zenith took a commanding lead in the thrid quarter, winning by 18-8, and continued to increase the difference in the final quarter. Congratulations to all the players, who showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout both Finals games.
Many of these players have now been selected to represent Forbes in the Open representative team who will play in the West/Central West Regional League, starting in February 2018.
- Best and Fairest for the Ladies competition was Alyssa Crowe from Golfie.
- Best and Fairest for the Mixed competition was Ellen McLinden from Zenith.
A huge thank you to all the umpires, who have helped with the running of the competitions. Without umpires there would be no games. Congratulations to all the National badged umpires who were selected to umpire the Finals last week.
