The second day of VANFEST music festival has been cancelled with ongoing wet weather.
A media release issued by Forbes Shire Council said an extraordinary weather event had affected much of Southern Australia over the past two days, bringing widespread heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
“It’s extremely disappointing but the weather is beyond our control,” said Mayor of the Forbes Shire Graeme Miller.
Event organisers and Council staff consulted widely with emergency services prior to taking the decision.
“We have made this decision to ensure the safety of our festival goers, performers and staff. Safety is and always will be our number one priority.”
The rainfall interrupted what had been the biggest and best Vanfest yet. A record 10,000 ticket sales had been recorded and day one had been capped off with a stunning performance from ARIA Award winner Amy Shark.
“We really are extremely disappointed as this year’s Vanfest was on course to break all records. But we will be back bigger and better than ever in 2018,” Matt Clifton, festival organiser said.
“The safety of our patrons, artists, and staff is paramount, and our team of Vanfest staff, and local volunteers have pulled together in numbers to ensure the safe exit of all campers from the festival site,” organisers said in a Facebook post to attendees.
“Please follow all directions from site officials.”
Ticket refunds will be made available. Ticketbooth will advise on further process early next week.
“We thank everyone who made the road trip to Forbes and ask them to come back in 2018 when hopefully the weather is a little kinder,” Mr Clifton said.
More information will be available on Vanfest Facebook and www.vanfest.com.au. There is nothing that you need to do at this point in time, we appreciate your patience during this period.
