In his own words, “it’s a big bike with its own postcode just about, but it’s beautiful for cruising”.
What makes it unique is that the big Japanese Kwaka was built with a 6 cylinder engine.
Originally released in 1979 the run lasted 10 years with the bike being too heavy and too thirsty on fuel to make significant sales expectations.
Viv bought the Kawasaki a few years ago from an importer.
It was originally owned by a wealthy bloke in the US who had ordered it with a complete Vetter kit from the factory.
Vetter was a US company making aftermarket fairings and panniers for motorbikes.
As you can see from the photo of Viv’s bike, his kit features the large front fairing and screen, big panniers and topbox and has received some custom pin’-striping.
Viv had always wanted a 6 cylinder Kawasaki having owned a few legendary Kwaka 900’s and because they were so unique.
When he came across this one it had sat in pieces for almost 10 years after being imported in a crate and then pieced together and sold.
He loves to ride it because it’s a fantastic cruiser but admits that yes it’s a heavy bike, weighing in at 314 kg unladen.
“It’s a water-cooled inline 6 cylinder, shaft driven with a 5 speed gearbox and cruise control” Viv said.
Like most toys, it doesn’t get out on the road as often as it should but when it does, there’s no doubt it makes its presence felt.
Viv is one of several Forbes members of the Central West Car Club.
